Diode Laser Arrays

SiMMtec’s standard lensed SiMM package is illustrated to the right in Fig. 1. Each Array uses electronic manufacturing technologies for its fabrication. The precision assembly is done in a clean room environment under processes regulated by ISO9001:2000 guide lines.

Depending on the amount of output power required for your specific application, the SiMMs package above can be mounted individually, or in groups to populate a “backplane”, A fully populated, standard design “backplane” can accommodate sixty-four individual SiMM packages. The average power output for one of these backplanes can exceed ninety kilowatts of lasing power at a 10% duty cycle, and twice that power at a 20% duty cycle.
40 Diode Backplane
SiMMtec’s 8x8 Backplane shown here is configured to be populated only with 40 diode arrays. This particular Backplane can be populated with up to 64 diode arrays.
Lens Assembly

The lens assembly, which will collimate and direct the laser light, is typically mounted to the top of the SiMMs package. An illustration of a standard lens assembly is shown below in Fig. 2. While Fig. 3 illustrates a 90° beam lens.

With the use of appropriate lenses, the diode array output can be both collimated and directed from 55 degrees to normal. Additional optics can be used to shape the final output on the point of application.
